American Gymnastics Champion Steps Away from Collegiate Career

Former Olympic All-Around Champion to Return to Olympics in 2024

Sunisa "Suni" Phabsomphou Lee, the 2020 Olympic all-around champion, has announced her retirement from the Auburn Tigers gymnastics team. The 20-year-old gymnast, who won the individual all-around gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, made the decision after a successful collegiate career.

Lee, who joined Auburn in 2022, was a standout performer for the Tigers. She won the NCAA all-around title in 2023 and helped Auburn win the SEC team championship. However, she has decided to step away from collegiate gymnastics to focus on her preparations for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

"I want to thank Auburn for the amazing experience these past two years," Lee said. "I have grown so much as a gymnast and as a person during my time here. I am excited to see what the future holds for me, and I am confident that I can achieve my goals with the support of my team and my coaches."
